Premier leading more than 50 companies at International Boston Seafood Show

FREDERICTON (CNB) – Fish and seafood from New Brunswick will be promoted in new and existing markets at the 2012 International Boston Seafood Show, March 11-13.

Premier David Alward will lead a delegation of more than 50 companies to promote New Brunswick products at the largest international seafood trade show in North America.

“New Brunswick is home to an innovative and diversified fish and seafood sector,” said Alward. “Our strong presence at this important international trade show helps New Brunswick businesses develop new markets, opportunities and partnerships.”

New Brunswick is among the partners in the Atlantic Canada pavilion, a collaboration among the Atlantic provinces to promote the region's fish and seafood industry.

Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud and Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp will also participate in the international event.

The annual show attracts more than 16,000 buyers and sellers of seafood products from more than 90 countries.

The provincial government joins the five New Brunswick companies in the New Brunswick Pavilion, which spans more than 163 square metres (1,800 square feet). Participating will be North Taste Flavouring Ltd. (Grande-Anse); Gourmet Chef Packers Ltd. and Partner Seafood Inc. (Shediac); True North Salmon Co. Ltd. (Blacks Harbour); and VIP Seafood Inc. (Memramcook).

The show is the chief trade event for the New Brunswick seafood industry. Many seafood suppliers from the province will meet with new and established buyers in preparation for the 2012 season.

The value in fish and seafood exported by New Brunswick to the American market is estimated at $700 million each year.
