Tidbits on the Royal Visit 2012 in New Brunswick

 

- The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be arriving at the Fredericton International Airport on Sunday, May 20, at 7:45 pm instead of the Saint John Airport as originally planned.

- The royal couple will be transported from RAF Base Brize Norton to Canada by Royal Canadian Air Force Airbus.

- The couple is rumored to be staying the night at the Delta Hotel in Fredericton.

- Dignitaries on had to greet the couple upon their arrival include, MP Keith Ashfield, Lt. Governor Graydon Nicholas, Government Services Minister Craig Leonard, Speaker of the Senate Noel Kinsella, Mayor Brad Woodside, Royal Tour Co-ordinator Joel Girouard, Chief NB Protocol Officer, Ms. Anne Reynolds and Chairman of the Fredericton International Airport Authority, Brent Melanson.

- The Official Welcome of the royal couple at CFB Gagetown on Monday May 21 begins at 10:30 am.

- The royal couple will be welcomed by Governor General David Johnston.

- Dignitaries expected on hand in Gagetown include Minister of Canadian Heritage James Moore, Lt. Governor Graydon Nicholas, Premier David Alward, MP Keith Ashfield, Associate Minister of National Defence, Julian Fantino, NB Education Minister Jody Carr, Oromocto Mayor Faye Tidd, CFB Gagetown Base Commander, Colonel Paul Rutherford.

- 10 year old Walter Brooks will present flowers to Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall at CFB Gagetown. Walter was recognized by St. Mary's First Nation as a top performer in a recent charity fundraiser.

- The St. Mary's Band will be playing for the royal couple while in the province. Established in 1903, the band is affiliated with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, becoming the first brass band of the Regiment in 1917 and was sent to France. 

- Dorothy Shephard, MLA, Saint John- Lancaster will be on hand with the Royals while they visit Saint John,

- Alexander Wilcox will present flowers to the Duchess of Cornwall upon her arrival in Saint John.

- John Irving, president Commercial Properties Ltd, John Leroux, Fredericton architect, and Gary Hughes, a curator at the NB Museum, will accompany Prince Charles on his tour of heritage buildings on Prince William Street in Saint John.

- Ronany Boyd will present flowers to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall upon the royal couple's arrival at the Marco Polo Cruise Ship Terminal in Saint John.

- Jim Quinn, President and CEO of the Saint John Port Authority will accompany the couple as they attend Victoria Day festivities at the Marco Polo terminal in Saint John.

-  Groups represented at the Marco Polo terminal for the couple's perusal include the Monarchist League of Canada, Girl Guides/Boy Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, military Cadets, WWII veterans, Marigolds on Main St., NB College of Craft and Design, and musicians Jessica Rhaye, Hubert Francis, Samantha Robichaud, Monique Poirier, Mike Biggar, Babette Hayward

- Jennifer Carhart, principal, Hazen-White/St. Francis school will be leading the royals through her school as they tour the facility and learn of it's innovative strategies to help a low-income student body.

- Kionna Furlotte will present flowers to the Duchess at the school.
